The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in rough shape as they’ve lost eight of their last 10 games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Trailblazers in a 132-122 home loss on Monday. Andrew Wiggins led the team with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Karl-Anthony Towns added 17 points with 12 rebounds and four assists while Tyus Jones chipped in with 14 points and 10 assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 49 percent from the field and 11 of 29 from the 3-point line as they poured in a combined 77 points in the second and third quarters to overcome an early 18-point deficit, only to let it slip in the fourth quarter where the Trailblazers outscored them by 35-22 to steal the game late. With the loss, Minnesota fell to 34-43 overall and 24-14 at home.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in a slump as they’ve lost 18 of their last 23 games, but they will be aiming for a third straight win after blowing out the 76ers in a 122-102 home win on Monday. Justin Jackson led the team with 24 points, Salah Mejri and Trey Burke each scored 16 points while Dwight Powell chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 46 percent from the field and 12 of 33 from the 3-point line as they started slowly in the first quarter, before taking control of the game in the second quarter where they outscored the 76ers by 41-18 to put the game out of reach early. With the much-needed win, Dallas improved to 31-46 overall and 23-15 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record, 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Mavericks are 0-3-2 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 31-15 ATS in the last 46 meetings, the Timberwolves are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Dallas and the Timberwolves are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
Luka Doncic is currently considered a game-time call for Wednesday, but the Mavericks may not need him as they’ve sprung to life without him in the last two wins. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have been struggling mightily ever since they lost their starting backcourt and they just had no answer for the Trailblazers who were missing two of their best players. The Timberwolves are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Dallas and I think that trend continues as the Mavericks stay hot with another win here.
