The San Jose Sharks and the Colorado Avalanche meet in game six of their Western Conference semifinal series in NHL action from the Pepsi Center on Monday night.
The San Jose Sharks will look to close out the series and head to the conference finals for the 2nd time in four years while the Avs will look to force a game seven after San Jose took a 3-2 series lead with a 2-1 win in game five on Saturday.
The game was scoreless through the opening period and for the first three quarters of the 2nd period before Tyson Jost opened the scoring for the Avalanche with his 1st career playoff goal. Tomas Hertl tied the game for the Sharks just 2:39 later, sending us to the 3rd period deadlocked at one goal apiece. Hertl scored his 2nd of the game just 6:26 into the 3rd and the Sharks would hold on the rest of the way to secure the victory and send the Avalanche to the brink of elimination.
Martin Jones got the win in goal for the Sharks to improve his postseason record to 7-4-0 this season after stopping 21 of 22 shots faced in the win while Philipp Grubauer took the loss for Colorado, falling to 6-4-0 after allowing both goals on 39 shots faced in defeat, falling to 6-4-0 this postseason.
San Jose is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 2-5 in their last 7 road games while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games as an underdog. Colorado is 9-1 in their last 10 home games and 5-2 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games as a favorite. The home team is 38-16 in the last 54 meetings between these two teams.
Getting an experienced team like San Jose at even or plus money (depending on where you look) to close out the series is a tempting proposition. However, the home team has had the majority of the success between these two teams for quite some time now and Colorado has been tough to beat on home ice before the playoffs started. I think the moment isn’t lost on the Avalanche and Colorado will want to force a game seven for obvious reasons, so I’ll lay the juice with Colorado in this spot.
